Live-in Care
Live-in care can help improving overall health, reducing falls, promotes well-being and enables people to remain as independent as possible.
What is Live-in Care?
Live-in care is a viable alternative to a care home and is a popular choice for many individuals and even couples. With Harrington’s live-in care, you and your loved ones will avoid the unnecessary distress and upheaval of moving home.
Research has proven that people prefer to stay in their own homes, surrounded by their loved ones, personal belongings, happy memories, and beloved pets if they have any. Live-in care promotes social inclusion and means family and loved ones can continue to visit as usual.

Matching you with the right live-in carer
At Harrington’s Homecare, we realise that finding the most suitable match is very important, especially when a carer will be living in your home. Every Harrington’s care worker undergoes a vigorous recruitment process and is fully vetted, including an enhanced DBS check.
We also match our clients with carers who may have similar interests and hobbies. When sourcing a live-in carer, we will send you a number of personal profiles that fit most closely with your needs, ready for you to approve before a live-in placement starts. We have found this approach to be useful in ensuring happiness for our clients and carers, forming a relationship based on familiarity, trust, respect, and dignity.
All live-in care staff at Harrington Homecare are employed through us. Each carer is required to complete an enhanced DBS check and undergo specific communication skills training to give you complete peace of mind. They are taught the dynamics of interpersonal relationships to promote effective communication between our staff and our clients.
Many of our clients have difficulties understanding the information provided because of language barriers, physical conditions (such as brain damage) or age. Through the training we provide we equip our staff with the necessary skills and resources to aid communication and understanding.
Live-in Care Plan
Our Live-in care plans capture what the person would like to achieve with their care and support, goals and aspirations for the future, what’s important to them and interests such as likes and dislikes and preferred routines.
It also includes helpful information about how to most effectively support and involve the person in the decision-making process. In the instance a person lacks capacity to express choices, we ensure families and other loved ones who are interested in their welfare have been consulted.
All other essential information is available in our care plans to ensure effective continuity of care and for use in emergencies.
We develop all of our care plans in collaboration with our clients, their relatives, advocates and support workers. This ensures that they are very much involved in decisions regarding their care. This is reflected in our service ethos, management, policies, and care practice.
Care Assessment
At the point of an initial care needs assessment, we would establish any specific communication needs or preferences.
We ensure this information is documented and embedded into an individual’s care plan.
This information is shared actively and consistently with all those involved in the individual’s care and support.
Effective communication between our care delivery team and our clients is our top priority. This plays a large part in achieving the highest standard and delivering positive outcomes for people.
Importance of Communication
Communication helps us build relationships by allowing us to share our experiences and needs and helps us connect with others.
It is the essence of life, allowing us to express feelings, pass on information, share thoughts, and wishes.
Here at Harrington Homecare, we make sure we meet the Accessible Information Standard by establishing ways in which we can effectively communicate with the people who use our service.
